How are there still local tv weather people employed?

I'm watching Lost tonight and Mark Murray shows up at the end of a KVUE 24 commercial with some sort of "tease" to get you to watch the newscast tonight.

That sort of stuff may have worked up to the late 90's but nowadays you can find out your local weather instantly on the internet. Do they not realize they look stupid by doing this? I can maybe understand watching a local newscast for local news that you may have a harder time finding online...but the weather?! give me a break.

  1. yes, and they repeat the weather at least 5 times during a regular newcast like it is "breaking news". First of all, like you said, we can check the internet, and those of us that have iphones or other some other wireless-enabled device can literally just check our pockets.
And hello. We live in Austin. The land of unexciting weather. It doesn't change that much, and a few drops of rain is not breaking news. Let us know when the once a year actual bad weather rolls in. Otherwise, leave us alone.
Sorry, you touched a nerve :).

  2. If they were smart they'd try to entice us with quirky local news stories that you can't find online.

I wonder if Mr. Murray realizes how stupid sounding he is but is just forced into doing it because the station says so? He probably has a pretty cushy job and doesn't want to make any waves!
